A significant challenge in the simulation of real environments for multiple participants is the ability to network multiple and disparate devices in both virtual and augmented reality systems. A very specific problem is that current fixed-simulation environments are only designed with a particular display device, which minimizes the ability for diversity.
Topography Collaboration provides a powerful experience and demonstrates the use of Virtual Reality technologies for applications in military and non-military training. Topography Collaboration is an interactive Virtual Reality installation that allows the user to interactively navigate a simulation of real spaces. The network-designed environment based on actual SD data and Hi-res photography can enable multiple people to share the same environment simultaneously. The goal is to provide users with a tool to interact over the network and navigate an existing environment in Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.
